Privacy Policy

The TL;DR Version

We respect your privacy. We don't track your individual browsing habits, we don't sell your data, and we don't judge what you browse. We do anonymously track which subreddits are popular to make the app better. What you personally browse in SubStory, stays in SubStory.

1. Information We Collect

SubStory collects minimal information to provide you with the best experience:

  • Your Reddit OAuth token (if you choose to log in - stored securely on your device only)
  • Your favorite posts (stored locally on your device)
  • App preferences (theme, display settings)
  • Anonymous analytics on which subreddits are added (for app improvement)
  • Basic app analytics (crashes, performance metrics - no personal data)

2. Information We DON'T Collect

Here's what we absolutely do NOT track:

  • Which specific posts you view or for how long
  • Your individual browsing patterns or history
  • Your Reddit subscriptions (we don't even load them)
  • Any connection between you and the subreddits you add
  • Any personal information beyond what's needed for Reddit API access

3. How We Use Your Information

The limited information we collect is used solely to:

  • Authenticate with Reddit's API to fetch public subreddit data (if you log in)
  • Save your favorite posts locally (premium feature)
  • Remember your app preferences
  • Understand popular subreddits to improve the app
  • Improve app performance and fix crashes

4. Data Storage

Your favorites and preferences are stored locally on your device. Your Reddit OAuth token is also stored securely on your device only - we never send or store it on our servers. Anonymous subreddit popularity data is aggregated on our servers, but never linked to individual users. Your Reddit authentication (if you choose to log in) is handled directly through Reddit's secure OAuth system - we never see your password.

5. Third-Party Services

SubStory uses the following third-party services:

  • Reddit API - for fetching content (governed by Reddit's privacy policy)
  • PostHog - for anonymous analytics, crash reporting and performance monitoring only

6. Your Rights

You have the right to:

  • Revoke Reddit access at any time through Reddit's settings
  • Clear all local data through the app settings
  • Use the app without creating any account with us (because we don't have accounts!)

7. Security

We take security seriously. All communication with Reddit happens over secure HTTPS connections. Your OAuth tokens are stored securely on your device only using platform-specific secure storage - we never transmit or store them on our servers.

8. Children's Privacy

SubStory is not intended for children under 17. We don't knowingly collect information from children. If you're under 17, please go do your homework instead of browsing Reddit.

9. Changes to This Policy

We may update this privacy policy from time to time. We'll notify you of any significant changes through the app. Continued use of SubStory after changes means you accept the new policy.
